Psychoanalytic literature on vengeance tends to reduce revenge to a
phenomenon of the inner world of the individual, as an acting-ˇout of envious
aggression and megalomanic narcissim. Vengeance, however, is not
exercised for the purpose of evacuating “bad parts” of the self only. It
sometimes reveals a wish to reclaim and "steal back" psychic elements which
.the group or the individual feels he has been robbed of
